DB begins trials with digital automatic couplings
A consortium led by German Rail (DB) has begun using a digital automatic coupling (DAC) for the first time, with DB Systems Engineering installing the new system on several wagons at its facility in Minden, Westphalia.

Covid-19 results in first-half loss for China National Railway
CHINA National Railway (CR) recorded revenue of Yuan 403.9bn ($US 59.1bn) in the first half of 2020, down Yuan 124.2bn year-on-year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This resulted in a net loss of Yuan 95.5bn for the period, including a net loss of Yuan 34.2bn in the second quarter.

ISRAEL Railways (IR) has reported a net loss for the first half of 2020 with a negative Ebitda of Shekels 16.1m ($US 4.74m). This compares with a net profit of Shekels 10.3m for the same period in 2019.

Cancelled Chinese contract delays completion of India’s Dedicated Freight Corridors
INDIAN Railways’ (IR) decision on June 18 to cancel the Rs 4.7bn ($US 63.3m) signalling contract with the Beijing National Railway Research and Design Institute has had an adverse impact on the Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFC), with the completion deadlines for the two lines now extended by six months.

Freight tram trials planned in Karslruhe
THE German city of Karlsruhe, in collaboration with Karlsruhe Transport (VBK) and Albtal Transport (AVG), has announced plans to begin trials of freight-carrying LRVs and tram-trains by 2022. It is hoped that the initiative will reduce road congestion and pollution in the city.
