EUROPEAN wagon leasing company Ermewa and Amsted Digital Solutions, United States, have deployed Load Status in Motion (LSiM) technology on Ermewa’s wagon fleet that is already equipped with Amsted digital telematics. LSiM will deliver real-time load status and distance tracking through embedded artificial intelligence (AI), obviating the need for external sensors.
LSiM transforms each wagon into a smart, self-aware asset by analysing high-frequency motion and vibration data. Its AI engine learns in real time, adapting to wagon types, bogie designs, and route profiles. Amsted says this delivers sensor-level performance at a fraction of the cost.
LSiM is designed to provide unsupervised AI learning to detect anomalies without requiring predefined fault signatures. Edge computing is built into each device allowing insights to be processed locally to ensure low latency, high data integrity, and continuous operation even in low-connectivity areas.
“The insight unlocked by LSiM far exceeded our expectations,” says Peter Reinshagen, Ermewa’s managing director. “We’ve remotely activated powerful new capabilities without hardware changes, installation costs, or added emissions.”
“Activating LSiM fleet-wide, even on units installed years ago, proves the long-term value of embedding edge AI into telematics,” says John Felty, managing director of Amsted Digital Solutions. “And with over-the-air upgrades, we can now add advanced diagnostics like brake fault alerts, bearing wear, and wheel condition monitoring without ever touching the wagon.”
