THE first of 10 pre-series KZ8A 25kV ac freight locomotives was unveiled today in Belfort, France, by the president of Alstom Transport, Mr Henri Poupart-Lafarge, who was accompanied by the president of Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ), Mr Askar Mamin.

IRJ at InnoTrans 2012: Kazakstan Railways (KTZ) signed a contract today at InnoTrans with GE Transportation to produce a passenger version of GE's Evolution series locomotive at the Lokomotiv Kurastyru Zauyty(LKZ) assembly plant in Astana. LKZ is a subsidiary of KTZ.

BOTH traffic and turnover increased last year for Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ) enabling it to declare a profit of a Tenge 123bn ($US 832m). KTZ also doubled capital investment to Tenge 394bn.

MORE than 23 years after construction began, Kazakhstan's first metro line finally opened on December 1, with the inauguration of Almaty Line 1.
