THE first of 10 pre-series KZ8A 25kV ac freight locomotives was unveiled today in Belfort, France, by the president of Alstom Transport, Mr Henri Poupart-Lafarge, who was accompanied by the president of Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ), Mr Askar Mamin.

IRJ at InnoTrans 2012: Kazakstan Railways (KTZ) signed a contract today at InnoTrans with GE Transportation to produce a passenger version of GE's Evolution series locomotive at the Lokomotiv Kurastyru Zauyty(LKZ) assembly plant in Astana. LKZ is a subsidiary of KTZ.

PASSAZHIRSKIE Perevozki, the passenger operations subsidiary of Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ), has awarded a €989.4m contract to Talgo, Spain, to maintain 1044 passenger coaches for 15 years.

RUSSIAN rolling stock manufacturer Transhmashholding (TMH) has purchased a 50% stake in Kazakhstan's Kurastyru Zauyty Locomotive plant from Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ), following a signing ceremony on June 15 overseen by Russian prime minister Mr Dimitry Medvedev and his Kazakh counterpart Mr Karim Masimov.

RUSSIAN Railways (RZD), Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ) and Belarusian Railways (BC) have announced plans to form a joint container transport and logistics company.

BOTH traffic and turnover increased last year for Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ) enabling it to declare a profit of a Tenge 123bn ($US 832m). KTZ also doubled capital investment to Tenge 394bn.
