Chinese DMUs to save Hungarian branch lines?

HUNGARIAN State Railways (MÁV) signed a letter of intent with China’s CRRC Changchun on January 21 to develop a DMU for operation on regional lines in Hungary, which will be manufactured at MÁV-Start’s Szolnok works.

IRJ In Brief – Fleet: CD Regioshuttles enter service; GySEV expands Desiro fleet; Sinara and Sakhalin sign LNG loco agreement

Czech Republic: Czech Railways (ČD) has begun operation of 22 Regioshuttle DMUs, formerly used by German regional rail operator Southwest Germany Transport (Sweg). The vehicles were purchased via an intermediary, with 13 sets delivered to ČD at the end of 2020. Nine more will be delivered this year, following major maintenance and/or revision. The new vehicles will expand ČD’s fleet of Regioshuttles to 55.

Britain: CAF has selected Finnish telecommunications company Teleste to supply onboard systems for 43 driverless metro trains on order for London’s Docklands Light Railway (DLR). Teleste will supply passenger information, public address and CCTV systems and ultrawide TFT displays for the trains, which are expected to enter service from 2023.

International team to study Budapest tunnel project

THE Hungarian government’s Budapest Development Centre (BFK) has selected several national and international partners to study the feasibility of an underground link between Budapest-Déli and Budapest-Nyugati stations, as well as carry out a preliminary impact assessment for the project.
