ITALIAN construction firm Itinera has announced that it has taken over sole responsibility for the new Storstrøms Bridge on the Copenhagen - Femern railway line, as the two firms it won the contract with are involved in corruption charges in Italy and are in economic difficulty.

REGIONAL passenger services across the Øresund bridge linking Denmark and Sweden are to be enhanced and reorganised in three phases between 2019 and 2021 to increase capacity and improve reliability.

SWEDISH national passenger operator SJ has submitted an application to infrastructure manager Trafikverket for additional train paths on the Stockholm - Malmö - Copenhagen route with the aim of stepping up X2000 services on the corridor from December.

THE Danish resignalling programme extends to the Copenhagen S-Bane commuter rail network. Siemens is currently engaged in a €252m project to deploy CBTC across the 170km network and its 135 trains under a contract awarded in 2011. However, it has also faced delays and disruption, and the project is now on course for completion in 2021, three years later than originally planned.

Denmark’s ambitious national signalling replacement programme hit the headlines in November 2017 when the Danish government announced plans to push back the completion of the ERTMS element from 2023 to 2030. Kevin Smith looks at the current status of the project and where it goes next.

COPENHAGEN metro authority Metroselskabet has signed construction contracts for the 4.5km Sydhavn metro extension, allowing work on the project to begin immediately.

FOLLOWING a tender launched in 2016, Danish State Railways (DSB) has selected Siemens to supply 26 Vectron dual-voltage locomotives with an option for an additional 18 units. A contract cannot be awarded until DSB receives approval from the Parliamentary Finance Committee.

THE first refurbished Öresund train was unveiled at a ceremony at Malmö Central station on March 7.
