Passenger numbers drop, but freight traffic up as China recovers from Covid-19
CHINA National Railways (CR) recorded a 53.9% drop in passenger numbers in the first half of 2020, due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, volumes of freight transported by the national operator increased slightly.

Coronavirus hurts MTR’s performance in first half
MTR is expecting to report a loss of $HK 400m ($US 51.6m) for the first six months of 2020 due to the significant impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and the general deterioration of the economic environment. The loss compares with a profit of $HK 5.5bn in the same period in 2019.

CHINA is on track to exceed its rail asset investment targets this year despite the impact of coronavirus, after investing Yuan 325.8bn ($US 46.3bn) in the first half of 2020, up Yuan 3.8bn (1.2%) on the same period last year.
