GERMAN Rail (DB) has awarded a contract to British Steel to supply around 20,000 tonnes a year of its new 120m-long rails, with an initial order lasting 21 months.

BRITISH Steel says it has become the first manufacturer to produce and deliver ultra-long corrosion protected rail with the completion of a renewal project in Scotland.

MR Patrick Jeantet, the newly-appointed CEO of French infrastructure manager SNCF Network, visited British Steel's Hayange rail mill in northeast France on June 14 to sign a contract for the supply of 120,000 tonnes of rail.

BRITISH Steel, which was formed following the purchase of Tata Steel's Long Products Europe division by Greybull Capital in May, has launched a new premium-coated rail called Zinoco.
