THE first of 30 class BB36000 locomotives being overhauled by Alstom to extend their life has been completed for locomotive leasing company Akiem.

FRENCH National Railways’ (SNCF) leasing subsidiary Akiem, has awarded a €20m contract to Alstom to carry out mid-life overhauls on 23 BB 36000 electric locomotives.

FRENCH leasing firm Akiem ordered 44 type DE 18 locomotives on July 29 from Vossloh Locomotives in Kiel, and delivery of the €140m order will start in 2018.

EUROPEAN locomotive leasing company Akiem has secured a €125m loan from HSH Nordbank, Germany, which is participating as a mandated lead arranger in providing refinancing for Akiem.

LOCOMOTIVE leasing company Akiem have signed a framework agreement with Bombardier Transportation for 52 Bombardier Traxx AC and MS electric locomotives, with an initial firm order for 26 units worth €95m.

AKIEM, the locomotive leasing subsidiary created by French National Railways (SNCF) in 2008 has been partly sold to Deutsche Bank-owned investment business Deutsche Asset Management for an undisclosed sum.
