THE International Union of Railways (UIC) has awarded Hit Rail of the Netherlands a contract to supply its Real Time Mobility Data Exchange (RTDME). The service will be accessible to public transport operators, online travel agencies and start-up businesses as a means of providing real-time journey information to end users.
By using RTDME, UIC says operators will be able to access high-quality and integrated real-time passenger information for all European services. This will enable operators to meet commitments and obligations to offer accurate travel information to passengers, as stipulated in the European Union’s (EU) Passenger Rights Regulation (PRR) and the Community of European Railways and Infrastructure Companies (CER) Ticketing Roadmap.
UIC RTDME is intended as a one-stop shop that will provide real-time status information on active passenger services and provide information and updates on possible disruption. The RTMDE service is provided by Hit Rail as a software as a service (SaaS) application, leveraging Cloud technologies and distributed via an API, similar to like UIC’s Multiple East-West Railways Integrated Timetable Storage (Merits) database, integrating timetable information from several hundred operators.
UIC says that the agreement to provide RTDME will allow all users to participate in more efficient, reliable and cheaper real-time data exchange compared with bilateral exchanges.
