The project is expected to be completed in early 2021, and preparation is already ahead of schedule with the building application submitted five months after Stadler approved the development.
The new facilities include additional assembly and office space and the creation of new space for logistics and commissioning.
“We are pleased that the preparation of the new construction project is proceeding very quickly and is goal-oriented,” says Mr Jure Mikolčić, CEO of Stadler Pankow. “Unlike out original plan, in the first construction phase we will not only expand our production area with a state-of-the-art assembly hall, but also invest directly in new office space and our own canteen.
“In this way, we will significantly improve the working environment of our employees as well as our attractiveness as a modern employer at the location in Berlin-Pankow. At the same time, we are establishing a new production concept in the new hall, which also leads to a clear improvement in the workplace situation.”
A logistics centre could also be added in future depending on order intake.
The Berlin-Pankow site is predominantly focused on the development and production of trams, LRVs and metro vehicles.
