MILAN Transport (ATM) has introduced the first of a new fleet of Tramlink LRVs built by Stadler. The LRV entered service on lines 7 and 31 on February 20 and will be followed by 73 other vehicles over the next two years.
The 25m-long three-section LRVs were built at Stadler’s plant in Valencia, Spain. They are the first bi-directional LRVs to be deployed by ATM and offer 66 seats for passengers as well as space for wheelchair users. The air-conditioned, low-floor LRVs are also fully accessible, with three doors on each side.
ATM placed the €172.6m order with Stadler for up to 80 LRVs in 2020. This was followed by another framework agreement for the supply of a further 50 Tramlink LRVs, comprising 25 three and 25 five-section vehicles, in June 2023.
“This milestone marks a further step in the innovation path of our public transport system,” says Arrigo Giana, CEO of ATM. “It is an investment that confirms Milan as the tram capital of Italy, which today has a network of almost 160km and 17 lines.”
