The extension runs from Châteaucreux station to La Terrasse via the centre of the Soleil, Zénith, Plaine-Achille and Technopôle districts and the Geoffroy-Guichard/Étivallière sports stadium. Six of the lines eight stations are new.
The line connects with the T1 and T2 lines, creating a loop around the city centre and reducing travel time between Châteaucreux station and La Terrasse from 19 minutes to 14 minutes. Services will operate at 10 minute frequencies.
A feasibility study was completed at the end of 2014, with the project approved in April 2015.
