PRAGUE Transport (DPP) has exercised an option in a contract with Škoda Group for an additional 31 ForCity Plus 52T LRVs.
The option, valued at around Koruna 2.5bn ($US 120m), comes from a framework contract for 200 LRVs, worth Koruna 16.6bn, signed in November 2023. Half of the initial order of 40 LRVs were delivered on time in 2025, with the remainder expected this year.
Delivery of the latest batch of LRVs comes two years after contract signing, meaning all are expected to arrive in Prague by the end of 2027. The uni-directional five-section type 52T LRV was authorised by Czech rail authority DÚ last October. Additional European Union (EU) funding worth Koruna 3.3bn was confirmed by DPP at the end of last year, allowing the operator to order the latest batch of LRVs.
"Thanks to subsidies totalling almost Koruna 7bn, we can renew our fleet faster, resulting in more comfortable and reliable transport for passengers, which also reduces emissions and operating costs," says Prague’s mayor, Bohuslav Svoboda.
