ALSTOM has selected a 9.3ha site in Newark, Delaware, for a new maintenance and support facility that will serve Amtrak’s NextGen Acela high-speed train fleet.
The company announced on June 4 that it will invest more than $US 55m to acquire and develop the property, which was chosen partly because of its direct access to the Northeast Corridor (NEC) where the Acela fleet operates.
The site will support Alstom’s long-term Technical Support and Spares Supply Agreement with Amtrak. The new facility will be capable of servicing two trains simultaneously. It will also include storage and parts distribution facilities. The complex is expected to enter operation in summer 2028.
Once operational, the facility will employ around 100 people and will consolidate maintenance support and parts distribution activities currently based elsewhere in Delaware.
