IRJ at InnoTrans 2024: RAILWAY sustainability was celebrated during a special event on the evening of September 25. The International Union of Railways’ (UIC) Sustainability Impact Awards ceremony showcased eye-catching projects nominated across seven categories covering four impact areas: customer service, innovation, cities and communities, and seamless connectivity.
A total of 17 projects were nominated from 15 countries and many of the nominees were in the audience at Alstom’s stand at InnoTrans.
The winners of this year’s awards are:
Climate change adaptation: Association of American Railroads - Norfolk Southern - Living shoreline
Accessibility, diversity and inclusion: Italian State Railways (FS) - Social campaign against sexual harassment in public places
Seamless connectivity: National Capital Region Transport (NCRT), India - Delhi - Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System
Energy and decarbonisation: DB Cargo - Fuel for the future - HVO@DB Cargo
Natural resources: SNCF Network - Green sleepers
Modal shift: Chilean Trains (EFE) - 30/30 Plan: new commuter and local services
Healthy cities and communities: Italo-NTV - cardio-protected trains
Highly commended: Amtrak; SNCB; Italian Rail Network (RFI)
Overall winner: NCRT
