Keolis withdraws from Buenos Aires Subte tender
KEOLIS, which was bidding with Transport for London (TfL) and Argentinian civil engineering company Helport for a 12-year contract to operate the Buenos Aires Subte metro, has announced to local media that it will not continue to the final stage of the tender process due to economic uncertainty, joining a consortium led by RATP in dropping out of the competition.

São Paulo Metro awards new Line 17 monorail systems contract
SÃO Paulo Metro has awarded BYD, China, a contract worth around Reais 1bn ($US 233.4m) to supply the systems and trains for Line 17/Gold, after the Signalling Consortium was disqualified for not meeting the tender’s technical and financial requirements.

European Investment Bank lends €600m for Pune metro
THE European Investment Bank (EIB) has signed a €600m loan agreement with Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha Metro), including a first tranche of €200m, to finance two new metro lines currently under construction in the city, as well as 30 stations and 102 metro cars.

CN and CP revenues up in 2019, NS down
CANADIAN Class 1 freight railways Canadian National (CN) and Canadian Pacific (CP) both reported increases in revenue in their 2019 full year results while United States Class 1 Norfolk Southern (NS) reported a 1% decline compared with 2018 as it experienced a 5% drop in volumes.
