The contract includes a 4.5km line, a short tunnel, three short bridges and the 836m Minnevika bridge, set to be Norway’s longest railway bridge, which will be built on floating piles.

“At the first announcement, we did not achieve sufficient competition, but we are well pleased with the response in the market after the assignment was re-announced,” says Bane Nor project manager, Ms Rønnaug-Ingeborg Resset.

NCC Norway and Veidekke Entreprenør also bid for the contract, but were unsuccessful. There will be a cooling-off period until April before the contract with Hæhre and PNC ANS is signed, to allow time for any legal challenges.

The line forms part of the upgrading of the InterCity network in eastern Norway, which will reduce travel times and improve punctuality and line capacity.

NCC Norway is currently constructing a 9km line from Venjar to Eidsvoll North, which is due to open in autumn 2022.

When fully completed in 2026, the double-track line will reduce Hamar - Oslo journey times from 1h 10min to 55min.
