ACCORDING to the German Press Agency (DPA), Bernard Osburg, former CEO of Thyssenkrupp Steel, is in the frame to succeed Sigrid Nikutta as CEO of DB Cargo.
The supervisory board of German Rail (DB) is expected to meet on October 30 where a final decision will made on whether to dismiss Nikutta.
If the change in leadership at DB Cargo goes ahead, Osburg will be tasked with turning around the operator more quickly than Nikutta had planned and restoring its competitiveness.
Osburg joined Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe in 2014 as director of automotive sales and became head of sales steering in 2017. He was appointed chief commercial officer and member of the executive board in 2019, rising to chairman of the board in 2020 and becoming CEO in 2021 until he left the company in 2024.
Osburg trained as a mechanical engineer at the University of Duisburg-Essen and Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences.
