UTAH Transit Authority (UTA) has awarded a contract to Stadler Rail for an additional 20 Citylink LRVs. This fulfills an option for 20 vehicles in the original contract placed in autumn 2024. The vehicles are custom designed for UTA’s Trax light rail network in Salt Lake City.
The original $US 129m contract, partially funded by a Federal Transit Administration (FTA) grant, was for 20 Citylink vehicles, with options for up to 60 more.
UTA says 30% of the current Trax fleet, which dates from the 1990s, is outdated, affecting performance and reliability. UTA also needs the additional LRVs to cope with its network expansion plans.
Stadler will build the vehicles at its Salt Lake City manufacturing site.
