SLOVENIAN Railways’ railfreight subsidiary SŽ TovorniPromet has signed acontract worth in excess of €150m with Alstom for 30 four-axle Traxx Universal multi-system electric locomotives. This confirms the order originally revealed in the Slovenian press in February.
The locomotives will be designed to operate on lines electrified at 25kV ac, 15kV 16.7 Hz and 3kV dc to allow them to haul heavy freight trains in Slovenia, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia and Serbia.
The 6.4MW Traxx locomotives will be designed to operate at up to 120km/h, with a 22.5-tonne axleload. They will be equipped with Alstom’s Onvia Cab onboard ERTMS system.
Delivery of the locomotives will start in early 2027.
