SERBIAN passenger operator Serbia Voz has signed a contract with CAF for the supply of 30 three-car EMUs for commuter services on the BG Voz network serving Belgrade. The contract includes a two-year maintenance agreement and is worth more than €300m.
The 120km/h lightweight aluminium trains are based on CAF’s Civity platform. Each car will be equipped with two bogies, supporting what CAF says is the need for effective acceleration and deceleration between frequent stops on the suburban network as well as simplifying maintenance.
The trains will have capacity for up to 546 passengers, including 204 seated. They will also feature six multipurpose areas that will enable storage of up to 18 bicycles.
The four-line BG Voz network serves 35 stations, including Ovča, Batajnica and Resnik terminal stations in Belgarde, extending to outlying communities such as Mladenovac and Lazarevac in the south of the capital.
The fleet upgrade is being delivered as part of the Belgrade Urban Transport Masterplan, which includes proposals to extend the suburban network and the construction of the city’s first metro lines. Alstom was awarded a €915m contract to deliver the initial 15km phase of the metro network and supply 32 driverless three-car metro trains earlier this month.
