EUROPEAN locomotive leasing company Railpool has signed full-service rental contract agreement with RegioRail for seven Alstom Traxx Universal multi-system locomotives.
The agreement includes an option for an additional four locomotives and is Railpool’s first contract to provide electric locomotives to a French operator.
Freight operator RegioRail says the agreement will support its ambitions to expand its service offering in Europe. RegioRail is part of Eurorail International, which is majority-owned by Railway Development Corporation (RDC), United States.
Railpool signed a €260m contract with Alstom for the supply of 50 Traxx Universal multi-system locomotives in July 2023. These electric locomotives were not certified for operation in France at the time of the contract award.
“The full-service rental of interoperable electric locomotives with a last-mile engine is in line with our strategy,” says Eurorail and RegioRail CEO, Mr Brice Devinoy. “The bi-modal capability is also worthwhile for RegioRail’s domestic traffic, offering energy efficiency and CO2 emission savings for the sake of our customer’s decarbonisation efforts.”
