CZECH operator Leo Express is progressing two tenders for the delivery of up to 84 battery-electric multiple units (BEMUs) and 33 EMUs. Procurement of the trains is dependent on the operator securing upcoming regional public service (PSO) contracts in the Czech Republic.
The first tender is currently underway while a second is in the qualification phase. Bids for the first tender, which is split into four lots representing a PSO tender, are due by June 29. The lots are divided as follows:
- Lot 1: 5 BEMUs
- Lot 2: 12 BEMUs
- Lot 3: 23 BEMUs
- Lot 4: 12 EMUs (of two vehicle types).
The second tender is again split into four lots and comprises:
- Lot 1: 11 BEMUs
- Lot 2: seven BEMUs
- Lot 3: 18 BEMUs + eight EMUs
- Lot 4: 8 BEMUs + 13 EMUs (of two vehicle types).
Leo Express requires bidders to be capable of supplying the full quantity for each region and reserves an option for up to two additional trains per lot beyond the stated quantities. The selection process consists of a qualification phase and a bidding phase, with bids assessed on purchase price (70%), maintenance costs (22%), and electricity consumption (8%).
