The eight-year framework agreement signed on November 30 in Milan, which includes full first and second-level maintenance, follows an agreement signed on November 21 for the supply of between 30 and 50 bi-mode (diesel and electric) multiple units for regional services.
The first five trains will be delivered by 2020 and will be leased to Trenord to reinforce the Tilo services starting with the introduction of the timetable change in December 2020. The remaining four trains will be delivered from July 2021.
The six-car dual-voltage EMUs are equipped for operation on 3kV dc electrification in Italy and 15kV ac in Switzerland. The 104.9m-long trains accommodate 655 passengers, including 244 seated, with a maximum speed of 160km/h, and will be compatible with the existing Tilo fleet of Flirt EMUs.
The trains will be equipped with LED lighting, electrical sockets, a passenger information system, energy meter, people counter, remote diagnostics and two toilets. The trains will also be equipped with ERTMS and ETCS which will increase line capacity.
