A serious fire on November 2 resulted in the almost complete destruction of a class 643 Talent DMU operated by Niederbarnimer Railway.
The train caught fire at Ahrensfelde station in the eastern suburbs of Berlin just as it was about to depart on a route RB25 service to Werneuchen when smoke was detected inside the train.
The two train crew were able to evacuate the five passengers and as a result no serious injuries were reported.
More than 100 firefighters in 15 emergency vehicles from both Berlin and the neighbouring state of Brandenburg attended the scene to extinguish the fire.
All mainline and Berlin S-Bahn tracks were closed through Ahrenesfelde for several hours while the fire was brought under control.
Investigations are underway to determine the possible cause of the fire.
