POLISH leasing company Cargounit has announced a deal with Siemens Mobility for the supply of 22 Vectron multi-system (MS) locomotives and an associated maintenance contract.
Of the new units, 12 will be delivered under a framework agreement for 100 locomotives signed in February 2024, while 10 will be purchased using funding from Poland’s National Reconstruction Programme, implemented by the Centre for EU Transport Projects.
The Vectrons will have a 6.4MW output when working in ac mode and 6MW in dc. They will be fitted with ETCS Baseline 3 onboard equipment, and depending on the variant ordered, will be certified for operation in Poland, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, the Netherlands, Romania and Bulgaria.
Deliveries are set to take place in 2025-26.
Cargounit’s fleet of ordered Siemens locomotives now totals 106 electric units consisting of 88 Vectrons and 16 Smartron locomotives. If all options are activated in existing framework agreements, the total Siemens fleet could exceed 150 locomotives.
The contract was announced at the Transport Logistic trade fair taking place this week in Munich. Siemens is showing a Vectron MS for Rail Traction Company and a Vectron AC with a battery power module at the outdoor area at the event.
