IRJ at Transport Logistic 2025: Leasing company Akiem has confirmed an order with Siemens Mobility for 50 Vectron dual mode locomotives. The deal comprises a firm order for 10 units and an option for other 40.
The order is part of a framework agreement signed in August 2021 for the supply of locomotives and associated services. The first locomotives under this contract will be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Akiem has already ordered 100 Vectrons of different types from Siemens in various batches since signing the 2021 framework.
The 160km/h dual mode Vectrons ordered in this deal offer a 2.4MW output in electric mode and 2MW when operating under diesel power. They will be operated in Germany and Austria, while they will also be certified to operate in Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria.
"By constantly investing in our locomotive portfolio, we are intending to contribute to the rejuvenation of rail freight and passenger transport and commit to a greener rail sector,” says Fabien Rochefort, Akiem CEO.
