EUROFIMA has entered into a framework agreement to lend up to €22m to Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ). The first tranche of €8.1m was disbursed on April 1, with a repayment period of 10 years.
The loan will fund the purchase of 35 second-hand inter-city coaches previously owned by German Rail (DB). The coaches are equipped with HVAC systems and have undergone successive modernisation programmes, including fully refurbished interiors and the installation of external passenger information displays. Each coach has seating capacity for 80 passengers.
The purchase of the DB coaches is part of a wider fleet renewal strategy at BDZ.
