Net profit for the period increased by 20% to €14.2m. CAF says this upward trend in profit is underpinned by an increase in activity at European manufacturing plants, the favourable profile of the current order backlog, the contribution of new businesses to the group, and the digitalisation of operating processes in manufacturing and the provision of services.
Recent orders worth €1.44bn have taken the company’s order backlog to €8.5bn and CAF says that its ambition is to maintain an order backlog, based on a stable volume of open tenders, of more than €7bn. The current figure does not include pending contracts worth €160m with Spanish operator Renfe for maintenance of commuter trains and to provide new push-pull trains to SAR, Saudi Arabia.
The manufacturer booked six orders in the first quarter, with the highlight an order worth more than €500m to supply 29 regional Civity EMUs and the provision of maintenance services for New South Wales.
