Tunnel dispute delays Japanese maglev project
THE Tokyo - Osaka Chuo Shinkansen maglev project is facing costly delays due to a dispute with the Shizuoka prefectural governor over the line’s ecological impact. Central Japanese Railway (JR Central), the company constructing the railway, had originally set the end of June as a deadline to resolve the issue.

Trafikverket appoints Lloyd’s Register for assessment contract

Fortescue selects contractor for Pilbara line
FORTESCUE Metals Group has awarded John Holland a $A 130m ($US 90m) contract to equip a new 143km railway connecting the Eliwana iron-ore mine to the existing 620km Hamersley line to Port Hedland, in Western Australia’s Pilbara region. The freight line is scheduled to open in December.

Bombardier wins Kanpur and Agra metro contracts
BOMBARDIER Transportation has won a Rupees 20.5bn ($US 274.8m) contract to supply 67 three-car metro trains, plus CBTC signalling and control systems, for metro projects in the Indian cities of Kanpur and Agra.

Munich orders 22 more Siemens metro trains
MUNICH City Utilities (SWM) has exercised an option with Siemens for an additional 22 six-car C2 metro trains, for operation by its subsidiary Munich Transport (MVG). The new trains will enter service in 2022 for operation on the city’s U3 and U6 metro lines.
