Thales wins São Paulo CBTC contract

THE Brazilian-Malaysian consortium responsible for building Line 17 - an 18km monorail - in São Paulo has awarded a contract to Thales to install Seltrac communications-based train control (CBTC) to enable the line to be operated automatically and without drivers. Thales says this is the first CBTC project in Brazil.

NTV unveils Italo trains

ITALIAN open-access high-speed operator Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori (NTV) launched its new trains and services to the Italian and global media on December 13 at the new purpose-built maintenance depot in Nola, north west of Naples. NTV chairman Mr Luca Cordero di Montezemolo opened the event with a message from the Italian President welcoming the creation of the new company and the fact that it has created 2000 jobs, mostly in the economically depressed south of Italy.
