Victoria state government provides $A 9m to continue Overland services
THE Australian state government of Victoria has announced it will provide $A 3m ($US 2m) a year over three years to ensure the continued operation of The Overland passenger service between Melbourne and Adelaide.

Fortescue selects contractor for Pilbara line
FORTESCUE Metals Group has awarded John Holland a $A 130m ($US 90m) contract to equip a new 143km railway connecting the Eliwana iron-ore mine to the existing 620km Hamersley line to Port Hedland, in Western Australia’s Pilbara region. The freight line is scheduled to open in December.

ADANI Australia, the developer of the controversial Carmichael coal mine in northern Queensland, has awarded a $A 220m ($US 140m) construction contract to Martinus Rail for its 200km 1067mm-gauge coal railway linking the mine to Abbott Point port.
