GTR class 717 EMUs enter service

BRITISH train operator Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) operated the first preview passenger services of the new £240m, 25 six-car class 717 trains between Moorgate and Gordon Hill on September 28. The new fleet will replace the 40-year-old class 313s with a phased introduction due from late autumn to spring 2019.

CRC awards high-speed contract to Bombardier-CRRC consortium

CHINA Railway Corporation (CRC) has awarded Bombardier Transportation’s Chinese joint venture, Bombardier Sifang (Qingdao) Transportation (BST), a contract worth approximately Yuan 2.2bn ($US 320m) to supply 10 CR400AF high-speed trains.

Prototype catenary mast improves electrification aesthetics

MOTT MacDonald and Moxon have unveiled an integrated overhead line equipment structure (OLS), which combines the structural and electrical protection requirements into a single component, allowing the new design to reduce the height and visual clutter normally associated with catenary, which is achieved with a densified wood laminate in the cantilever arm.
