JR Hokkaido plans 320km/h operation to Sapporo
HOKKAIDO Railway Company (JR Hokkaido) has submitted an application to Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport seeking to raise the maximum line speed on the Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto - Sapporo extension of the Hokkaido Shinkansen from 260km/h to 320km/h.

Lords: HS2 needs new costs and benefits assessment
BRITAIN’s House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee published a report on May 16 which questions the economic case for HS2, the planned 338km high-speed line between London, Birmingham and the north of England. The committee says that the project should not go ahead without a new assessment of its costs and benefits.

Talgo-Systra to overhaul Metrolink coaches
THE board of Southern California Regional Rail Authority (SCRRA) has selected a joint venture of Talgo and Systra for a $US 138.9m contract to rebuild up to 121 Bombardier double-deck coaches used by commuter operator Metrolink.
