Westbahn sells Stadler EMUs to DB and cuts services
AUSTRIAN open access operator Westbahn has announced it is selling its fleet of seven Kiss and 10 Kiss2 double-deck EMUs to German Rail (DB), which it will replace with 15 new six-car Kiss3 sets from Stadler.

Passenger trains return to Bragado
ARGENTINA’s national operator Argentinean Trains (TA) has re-launched passenger services along the 208km line between Buenos Aires and Bragado four years after they were suspended following serious weather damage to several bridges and track at the western end of the route in August 2015.

California issues RFQ for high-speed rail systems contract
CALIFORNIA High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) has released a request for qualification (RFQ) on July 17 for a $US 1.6bn design-build-maintain contract to equip the 191km Merced - Bakersfield Central Valley section of the state’s high-speed rail project.

Ireland approves plans for National Train Control Centre
IRELAND’s government has approved plans for a new Dublin-based National Train Control Centre (NTCC) to enable the planned and potential future expansion of rail services across the entire Irish network and facilitate the planned expansion of Dublin Area Rapid Transit (Dart) services under the Dart Expansion Programme.

Auckland City Rail Link major works contract signed
AUCKLAND City Rail Link (CRL) developer City Rail Link Ltd has signed a project alliance agreement (PAA) with the Link Alliance, enabling work to begin on two new underground stations, upgrading the existing Mt Eden station, and completing tunnel construction.

MTR proposes phased opening of Tuen Ma Line, outlines options for Shatin - Central Link
A feasibility study by MTR Corporation has found a phased opening of Hong Kong’s Tuen Ma Line (TML), which would see three new stations at Hin Keng, Diamond Hill and Kai Tak open in the first quarter of 2020, is a viable option.

Utrecht Uithof Line opening delayed again
A new light rail line linking Utrecht Central station with the university campus at De Uithof and Utrecht Science Park has suffered another setback with confirmation that the line will not open at the end of this month as previously planned.
