British government and TfL reach £1.8bn lost revenue agreement
THE British government is set to provide Transport for London (TfL) a funding and financing package worth around £1.8bn to make up for lost revenue caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The funding will enable the authority to keep London Underground trains and buses running with another national lockdown set to commence on November 5.

FlixTrain suspends services for second time in 2020
GERMAN open-access operator FlixTrain has announced the suspension of its services from November 3 until sometime in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Local reports suggest that services may be suspended until at least February.

EC investigation alleges Czech Railways engaged in “predatory pricing”
THE European Commission (EC) has informed state-owned Czech Railways (ČD) of its preliminary view that ČD breached European Union (EU) anti-trust rules by engaging in predatory pricing on passenger services operated on the Prague - Ostrava route between 2011 and 2019.

Panama Metro Line 3 rolling stock and systems contract signed
A consortium of Hitachi, Hitachi Rail STS and Mitsubishi has signed an $US 883m contract with HPH Consortium, the prime contractor for the Panama Metro Line 3 monorail project, to supply rolling stock and equip the 25km line.

Egypt awards contract for Alexandria light rail line modernisation
EGYPT’s National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) awarded a contract on October 27 for the design and supervision of the €360m rehabilitation of Alexandria’s 13.8km Raml light rail line to a Systra-led consortium.
