Work on final section of Oldenburg - Wilhelmshaven upgrade gets underway
A ceremony was held on February 28 to mark the start of work to electrify and track double the 9km Oldenburg - Rastede section of the 70km Oldenburg - Wilhelmshaven line, the final phase of a project to improve rail freight connections to Germany’s JadeWeserPort at Wilhelmshaven on the North Sea coast.

Austria to test hydrogen traction
ALSTOM has won a tender from Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB), which called for the hire of two hydrogen-powered multiple units. This follows the use of an iLint by ÖBB for a short test run in December 2019.

Testing of Switzerland’s Ceneri Base Tunnel set to begin
SWISS Federal Railways (SBB) is set to commission ETCS Level 2 in the Ceneri Base Tunnel on the night of February 29 ahead of the start of line testing by Alp Transit Gotthard, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SBB and the developer of the 15.4km tunnel, the following day.
