SBB records SFr 479m loss as passenger numbers drop
SWISS Federal Railways (SBB) has announced a loss of SFr 479m ($US 528.5m) for the first half of 2020, down from a profit of SFr 279m over the same period last year, as the effects of Covid-19 saw passenger numbers drop by a third over the period.

13,000km of electrification required plus battery and hydrogen to decarbonise British network
BRITISH infrastructure manager Network Rail (NR) has released the interim programme business case for its Traction Decarbonisation Network Strategy (TDNS), developed in response to the government’s plan to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, which recommends a rolling programme of electrification across up to 13,000 track-km.

Divača - Koper track doubling project awarded Cohesion Fund grant
THE European Commission (EC) has awarded an €80m grant through the European Union’s (EU) Cohesion Fund for the construction of a tunnel and two viaducts, as part of a project to track double the line between Divača, in western Slovenia, and the Port of Koper on the northern Adriatic Sea.
