São Paulo targets rail expansion
The state of São Paulo is investing more to expand the urban rail network in the São Paulo metropolitan area, build light rail lines and introduce a two-line inter-city network in the state. Renata Passos reports on the progress made so far and the challenges facing the expansion.

Contracts awarded for Parramatta Light Rail
MAJOR construction on the Parramatta Light Rail is due to begin in 2019 after two large contracts were awarded to build and operate Stage 1 of the project, which will connect Westmead to Carlingford via Parramatta CBD and Camellia, on December 20.

Oklahoma City Streetcar opens
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in the US city of Oklahoma on December 14 to mark the opening of the city’s first light rail network. Passengers will be able to use the system free-of-charge until January 5.

AVG exercises option for 20 Flexity tram-trains
BADEN-Württemberg municipal transport operator Albtal Transport (AVG) has exercised an €87m option with Bombardier for 20 Flexity tram-trains, the third order from a 2009 framework agreement for up to 75 vehicles.

NICE Côte d'Azur Airport joined the city’s light rail network on December 15 with the inauguration of the 1.9km western stretch of Line T2 from Grand Arénas to terminals 1 and 2.

First LRV for Avignon tramway delivered
ALSTOM delivered the first of 14 Citadis X05 compact LRVs for Avignon, France, on December 13 after a three-day journey from La Rochelle where the LRV was designed and built, with the trams due to enter service in summer 2019.
