Study rejects free public transport for Paris
MAKING public transport services in the Paris area completely free-of-charge would reduce car traffic by only 2%, overwhelm the network and add €500 a year to household tax bills in the Ile-de-France region, according to the findings of a study published on October 2.

GTR class 717 EMUs enter service
BRITISH train operator Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) operated the first preview passenger services of the new £240m, 25 six-car class 717 trains between Moorgate and Gordon Hill on September 28. The new fleet will replace the 40-year-old class 313s with a phased introduction due from late autumn to spring 2019.

CRC awards high-speed contract to Bombardier-CRRC consortium
CHINA Railway Corporation (CRC) has awarded Bombardier Transportation’s Chinese joint venture, Bombardier Sifang (Qingdao) Transportation (BST), a contract worth approximately Yuan 2.2bn ($US 320m) to supply 10 CR400AF high-speed trains.
