Six dead in Danish train accident - updated
SIX passengers on a Danish State Railways (DSB) Aarhus - Copenhagen inter-city train were killed in the early morning of January 2 when the train was hit by an object while crossing the Great Belt fixed link between Funen and Zealand at around 07.45.

BRITISH train operator Great Western Railway (GWR) extended electric train operation west from Swindon to Bristol Parkway and from Reading to Newbury on December 31 following the completion of electrification at 25kV ac by infrastructure manager Network Rail (NR).

Rio Tinto completes automation of Pilbara rail network
RIO Tinto announced on December 28 that it has successfully completed its $US 940m AutoHaul project to automate the operation of its 1700km heavy-haul rail network in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, which it says is now the “world’s largest robot and first automated heavy-haul, long-distance rail network.”

Traxx locomotives authorised for passenger operation in France
THE French Railway Safety Board (EPSF) has extended the Authorisation to Place in Service (APS) for Bombardier Traxx FM 140 AC 1M electric locomotives (German class 185.1) to allow passenger operation on the conventional railway network in France.

India opens Brahmaputra road-rail bridge
INDIA’s prime minister Mr Narendra Modi officially opened the 4.94km Bogibeel road-rail bridge on December 25 which crosses the Brahmaputra river and plugs a gap in the Northeast Frontier Railway network in Assam between Dibrugarh with Dhemaji.
