FS Group revenue grows 30% to top €12bn
ITALIAN State Railways Group (FS) achieved a 30% increase in turnover in 2018 to €12.08bn. Although operating costs soared by 37.6%, partly as a result of acquisitions, to €9.6bn, FS still managed to record a 7% increase in Ebitda to €2.48bn and an Ebitda margin of 20.5%.

Work begins on new Indonesian rolling stock plant
A groundbreaking ceremony was held in Banyuwangi, Indonesia, on March 31 for state-owned rolling stock manufacturer PT Industri Kereta Api Indonesia’s (PT Inka) new plant where it will manufacture trains in partnership with Stadler.

SWISS intermodal operator Hupac is set to automate its route planning and traffic management processes using sensor data and analytics provided by Nexiot, which the operator says will help to predict delays, better plan journeys and improve traffic and fleet management.

Rail Cargo Group signs MoU to expand Rijeka port rail logistics
RAIL Cargo Group (RCG), a subsidiary of Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB), signed a memorandum of understanding on April 2 with Luka Rijeka, the operator of the Adriatic port of Rijeka in Croatia, to expand rail logistics facilities.

New York road congestion charge to support rail networks
NEW York City is aiming to raise up to $US 15bn to support Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) rail upgrades and repairs from a new road traffic congestion pricing programme, the first in the United States, which was confirmed in the state’s 2020 budget announcement on April 1.

BLS Cargo achieves strong revenue and profit growth
SWISS rail freight operator BLS Cargo achieved a 15.8% increase in revenue last year to SFr 235m ($US 235m) compared with SFr 203m in 2017, while profit rose by SFr 1.9m to SFr 5.4m.
