Govia Thameslink Railway announces £55m fleet upgrade
GOVIA Thameslink Railway (GTR) and leasing company Porterbrook have announced a five-year, £55m programme to modernise the Southern, Gatwick Express and Great Northern ‘Electrostar’ fleets, a total of 270 trains.

Alstom expects to acquire Bombardier Transportation for less than envisaged
ALSTOM has signed a sale and purchase agreement with Bombardier and Caisse de dépot et placement du Québec (CDPQ) for the acquisition of Bombardier Transportation for between €5.5bn and €5.9bn, and now says this could drop to €5.3bn.

SPANISH train manufacturer Talgo has unveiled a new modular hydrogen-powered propulsion system at a conference in Spain on September 16 which it says could offer an emission-free alternative to diesel traction for non-electrified lines.

First section of Australia’s Inland Rail project completed
THE first section of Australia’s 1700km $A 10bn ($US 7.3bn) Melbourne - Brisbane Inland Rail project has been completed with the opening of the Parkes - Narromine section in New South Wales (NSW) on September 15. The milestone was marked with the hammering in of a gold clip in Parkes, where the project was launched in December 2018.
