Belgian government boosts rail budget
THE Belgian federal government has increased the 2021 rail budget by €75m to provide additional funding to infrastructure manager Infrabel ‘Boost Plan’ for infrastructure investment, taking the total budget to €894.2m.

IRJ In Brief – Fleet: CD Regioshuttles enter service; GySEV expands Desiro fleet; Sinara and Sakhalin sign LNG loco agreement
Czech Republic: Czech Railways (ČD) has begun operation of 22 Regioshuttle DMUs, formerly used by German regional rail operator Southwest Germany Transport (Sweg). The vehicles were purchased via an intermediary, with 13 sets delivered to ČD at the end of 2020. Nine more will be delivered this year, following major maintenance and/or revision. The new vehicles will expand ČD’s fleet of Regioshuttles to 55.

Bart suspends delivery of new metro cars
SAN Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit (Bart) has announced that it will temporarily halt delivery of its new Fleet of the Future (FOTF) metro cars from January 8 to allow the manufacturer, Bombardier, the time to address two reliability issues.

Singapore - Kuala Lumpur high-speed project cancelled
THE governments of Malaysia and Singapore have announced the termination of the 350km Kuala Lumpur - Singapore high-speed rail project, following a failure to reach an agreement on proposed changes by the deadline of December 31.
