Prasa launches bid to acquire additional Afro locomotives
THE embattled Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) has presented a business case to parliament to acquire the remaining Afro 4000 and Afro Dual locomotives built by Vossloh Spain (now Stadler Rail Valencia), which were ordered but never delivered after it was discovered they exceeded the loading gauge on part of the country’s network.

ALSTOM has launched a validation test campaign for the Prima T8 AZ8A freight locomotives on the Baku - Tbilisi - Kars freight corridor in Azerbaijan, which was recently converted from 3kV dc to 25kV ac.

NEW York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has awarded a $US 233m contract to Wabtec for 25 MotivePower R255 hybrid battery-diesel locomotives for use on NYC Transit (NYCT) work trains, with an option for up to 45 additional units.

ČD Cargo begins commercial trials with new Traxx locomotives
ČD Cargo, a subsidiary of Czech Railways (ČD), began commercial trials with two Bombardier Traxx Multi-System locomotives on July 2, operating freight services on the line between Ostrava and Česká Třebová.

NJ Transit orders eight more Bombardier locomotives
NJ Transit have announced the purchase of an additional eight four-axle ALP-45A locomotives from Bombardier for a cost of $US 70.5m, with deliveries scheduled to begin in early 2022.
