Nishi-Nippon Railway orders Kawasaki EMUs

JAPAN's Nishi-Nippon Railway has awarded Kawasaki Heavy Industries a contract to supply 18 1067mm-gauge EMUs for the 75km Nishitetsu Tenjin Omuta Line in Fukuoka prefecture.

Emilia Romagna outlines plans for new trains

Metra issues RFP for double-deck coaches

Alstom and SNCF sign Iranian rail agreements

ALSTOM signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Industrial Development and Renovation Organisation of Iran (IRDO) in Paris on January 27, which is intended to pave the way for the supplier to re-enter the Iranian market for urban and mainline rail equipment.

Lokomotion orders Siemens Vectron locomotives

SALES of Siemens Vectron locomotives have passed the 300 mark after German rail freight operator Lokomotion placed an order for eight units, becoming the 20th customer to choose the type.

The 200km/h multi-system Vectron MS locomotives for Lokomotion will have a maximum output of 6.4MW. Deliveries are due to begin in 2017 and the ETCS-equipped locomotives will be authorised for operation in Germany, Austria, and Italy.

Siemens recently delivered the first of 80 1524mm-gauge Vectrons for Finland's VR Group and has also delivered the first units from an order for 15 of the locomotives to Polish rail freight operator PKP Cargo.

SBB orders firefighting and rescue trains

SWISS Federal Railways (SBB) has exercised an SFr 38m ($US 37.3m) option with a German consortium of Windhoff and Dräger Safety for three additional self-propelled firefighting and rescue trains (LRZs), which will be delivered by the end of 2018.
