NORTHEAST Illinois Regional Commuter Railroad (Metra) issued a request for proposals (RFP) on February 2 for a contract to supply up to 367 double-deck coaches as part of its 10-year $US 2.4bn plan to modernise Chicago's commuter rail network, which was adopted by the Metra board in 2014.
SALES of Siemens Vectron locomotives have passed the 300 mark after German rail freight operator Lokomotion placed an order for eight units, becoming the 20th customer to choose the type.
The 200km/h multi-system Vectron MS locomotives for Lokomotion will have a maximum output of 6.4MW. Deliveries are due to begin in 2017 and the ETCS-equipped locomotives will be authorised for operation in Germany, Austria, and Italy.
Siemens recently delivered the first of 80 1524mm-gauge Vectrons for Finland's VR Group and has also delivered the first units from an order for 15 of the locomotives to Polish rail freight operator PKP Cargo.
