Birmingham Eastside light rail extension set for approval
WEST Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) is this week expected to approve the Birmingham Eastside extension of the West Midlands Metro, which will provide a branch from the existing light rail line at Bull Street to High Street Deritend in Digbeth, via the proposed High-Speed 2 (HS2) Curzon Street Station.

Škoda-ŽOS Trnava begin delivery of Slovakian EMUs

DB presents refurbished former Westbahn EMU
GERMAN Rail (DB) presented the first of 17 refurbished former Westbahn Stadler Kiss double-deck EMUs at Berlin Main Station on February 6 ahead of the introduction of nine trains on the Rostock - Berlin - Dresden inter-city route on March 8.

CAF awarded €100m Nordic fleet and maintenance contracts
NORWEGIAN operator VY has awarded CAF subsidiary Euromaint a contract to maintain the Bergen Railway fleet over nine years, one of two contracts worth a total of €100m awarded to the manufacturer in the Nordic region.

Alstom wins German battery train contract
MID Saxony Transport Authority (VMS), with the support of Greater Leipzig Transport Authority (ZVNL), has awarded Alstom a €100m contract for 11 three-car Coradia Continental battery-EMUs (BEMU), which are scheduled to enter service in 2023.

DB suspends delivery of IC2 trains from Bombardier
GERMAN Rail (DB) subsidiary DB Long Distance has stopped acceptance of the remaining 25 IC2 double-deck push-pull trains on order from Bombardier following a series of high-profile failures in recent weeks.
