METROREX, the operator of Bucharest Metro, has awarded Invensys Rail Dimetronic a contract to supply and install signalling and train control equipment on the 4km northern extension of Line M4 from Grivita 1 Mai to Laminorului. The signalling project, which will take a year to complete, involves equipping the line with Automatic Train Protection (ATP) and Automatic Train Operation (ATO), based on speed codes, as well as a control centre, passenger information systems, and public address systems.

AUSTRIA'S finance minister Mrs Maria Fekter has hinted the federal government could be willing to privatise at least part of Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) in an effort to stem the company's losses. "ÖBB could easily be privatised, I have absolutely no problem with that, " Fekter told the daily Österreich newspaper on Sunday. "It could be through a strategic partnership, cooperation or a stock market flotation. Personally, I'd prefer a strategic partnership."
